Treat Yo’self to…Tepuy Donuts
*PSST…check out my reel on IG!
It’s Treat Yo’self Tuesday…because I love a little treat.
I have a confession to make: I recently drove 1.5 hours for four donuts…and that’s not even the longest I’ve ever traveled for pastries. 🙈
After seeing an Instagram post about Tepuy Donuts’ recently opened brick-and-mortar location in Raleigh, it wasn’t a matter of if I’d visit, but when.
What’s so special about these particular donuts? One look at their Instagram feed shows all you need to know, but if that’s not enough, the donuts are made from hand-crafted sourdough brioche by Raleigh’s very own “Doughnut Guy,” Alejandro Contreras. So yes, I drove 47 minutes each way to just try them out!
After FaceTiming my mom (and walking up and down the donut case, reading out of the flavor names), we decided on two vanilla bean glaze, a hibiscus glaze for me, and a filled creme brulee for her. [Other donuts that get honorable mention: filled churro caramel, lemon pistachio, boston creme pie, banana pudding, and s’mores].
I also want to point out that if “regular” donuts just aren’t your jam, Tepuy serves cinnamon rolls, donut french toast, breakfast AND lunch sandwiches. They also have a variety of hot bevvies, and I am KICKING MYSELF because I forgot to order their show-stopping hot chocolate.
But back to the donuts…because it always comes back to the donuts.
I don’t know how, but I managed to wait until I got home to break open the box. All of the donuts were larger and more dense compared to the usual yeast or cake donuts. The sound when you tap on the top of the creme brulee donut has to be heard to be believed, and you can see specks of vanilla bean in the custard filling. The hibiscus glaze contains fresh flowers, and while sweet, has a slightly tart finish that enhances the tang from the sourdough. You can tell without a doubt that everything is super fresh and made with real ingredients.
So, if you need a little treat and want to try something different, head on over to Tepuy. But be warned—you might find yourself heading back sooner than later.
